We hope you enjoy your stay in New York City. We want to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Below are the answers of some of the most frequently asked questions you may find useful for your stay.
Free Internet:
Wifi: 12SYLVAN

Transportation:
The closest subway station is 162–163 Street Station (located on 162nd Street and St. Nicholas Avenue). St. Nicholas is the Avenue to the right of Sylvan Terrace. Go left as you leave the property, down the stairs and make a right, pass C-Town grocery store.
- C Train: This is a local train stops at every stop, however.
– If you wish to be quicker, you can change from the C train to the A train at either 145th or 125th streets stations located across the platform from the C train.
– When returning home you should always aim to be in the last carriage at the back of the train, as that will let you out closest. It’s perfectly safe to walk around this part of town, but please use common sense.
Taxi and driver for hire:
Below are very trustworthy drivers you can call to arrange transportation to the airport. Their prices are fair, and we have availed ourselves of their services often. Typical fees to the airport follow.
German Polanco 1 646 626 3616
– JFK Airport: $70
– Newark Airport: $85
– LaGuardia Airport: $45

Garbage
The garbage trucks come every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:00am to 10:00am.
– Recyclables, plastics, glass and cardboard are picked up on Wednesdays only. Recyclables should be in a blue or clear plastic bag. — Plastics and glass should be in separate bags, and boxes and newspapers should be tied up with string separately.
– If there is food in the garbage I would suggest putting out the morning of the pickup day; there are raccoons at the park next door and they will tear up the bags searching for food if they are left overnight.
Hospital
– Columbia Presbyterian Hospital is 5 blocks away at 165th Street.
Laundromat and dry cleaners
There is a Laundromat located at the foot of the steps to St Nicholas Ave on the left. You will need to purchase a card.
Alternatively, there is a dry cleaners on 160th and St. Nicholas (across from the Laundromat). You can drop off your laundry for wash, dry and fold service at .85/lb.
Supermarket
C Town supermarket is located at foot of the steps to St. Nicholas avenue on the right and has quite a good assortment of foods. Two blocks west on Broadway you’ll find several vegetable markets and fish and meat markets.
Wine store
There is a liquor store, Patagonia, at the corner of Amsterdam and 59th Street.
Restaurants and food delivery
